Plukon in the Netherlands scraps Better Chicken Commitment

Dutch poultry giant Plukon has discontinued its Better Chicken Commitment (BCC) handbook, Belgian farmers’ union Boerenbond reports in its newsletter. Growing chickens under those specs is problematic because of the current focus on nitrogen restrictions in Flanders. Moreover, large supermarkets in the country don’t want to sell the more expensive BCC chicken anymore, since the additional price cannot be passed on to the consumer. “This is a harsh reality for poultry farmers
