Ukraine’s largest poultry manufacturer, MHP, is on a track to purchase a poultry slaughterhouse and processing facility from Agrol, a smaller chicken producer. In parallel, the company has achieved substantial progress in biogas exports in 2025.

MHP has already submitted documents to Ukraine’s Antimonopoly Service seeking approval for the acquisition. According to Forbes Ukraine, the asset’s value exceeds US$5 million, though the terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

MHP’s press office stated that the agreement concerns only slaughterhouses and processing facilities, and that the company has no intention of acquiring Agrol entirely.

The Agrol poultry farming assets will remain with the previous owner, so Agrol will continue to operate on the market and compete with MHP, local press said, citing MHP. The company said that it views the deal as an investment in business sustainability and “support for Ukraine’s food security”.

Strengthening exports

Agrol operates 2 poultry farms in the Lviv region of western Ukraine. In 2024, it generated UAH 1.8 billion (US$42 million) in net revenue.

The agreement, which covers the acquisition of modern facilities equipped with slaughter, cutting, packaging, and freezing lines built between 2018 and 2021, is likely called to further strengthen MHP’s position on key export markets, Forbes Ukraine said, citing local analysts.

In particular, the analyst said, MHP’s interest in the asset can be attributed to its advantageous logistical location near the EU, particularly the Polish market, as well as the opportunity to improve production efficiency and leverage Agrol’s established distribution channels.

Exports diversification

MHP is exporting not only poultry to the European market. In 2025, Ukraine kicked off exports of biomethane to Europe, delivering 11.2 million cubic metres of domestically-produced gaseous biomethane. MHP accounted for 77% of the export supplies or 8.7 million tonnes.

MHP has long been considering biomethane production as a highly promising segment.

In 2024, Adomas Audickas, MHP deputy CEO, told the local news outlet Delo that the industry could attract €5 billion in investments through 2029. He estimated that this would allow the company to expand biomethane exports dramatically to 5 billion cubic metres per year.
